In this case, there was no landing zone not initially Since recently having done living history maneuvers with a 20' pike (15th c. medieval re-enactment), I keep seeing lots of movies and other situations on TV where the hero is faced by some enemy with a spear or similar and I keep thinking... .:'(Why doesn't he just set for charge?) We did some maneuvers and set ourselves in a double rank with 16' and 20' pike (the 16s were in the front) and when we set, the facing was quite formidable with many pointy things. If an enemy were charging and saw a line up of solid pike, as would be common amongst defensive tactics in the non-hi-tech situations, such as the Scro, most chargers would halt or be speared (or maybe throw your buddy on a pike/use him as a shield). Nah, if I were going to battle as the Scro, I'd start with an aerial bombardment, using scorp ships to drop and lob rocks and boulders - maybe even using some jettison material (sharpened sticks, caltrops in mass quantities) and THEN proceed with the ground forces launching a 3 sided attack with a delay on each face. But, hey, what do I know? I play too much starcraft...
