Realmspace Updates

Introduction

I was very disappointed when the Realmspace accessory came out, I
just didn't feel it truly captured the flavor of the realms, and I felt it
was, in general, a poor product. Now that Spelljammer has bit the final
bullet I realized no one would come along and redo the Realmspace product.
So I decided to do it myself. The task has proven somewhat larger then I
at first expected, but is also becoming more rewarding as I move along.
I've decided my Update into two books. Book I:Atlas of Realmspace,
covers the astronomical bodies of the sphere. The planets take up the
largest portion of this book, especially Toril itself. Each description
describes as completely as possible the world it covers; in particular it
covers those areas of the planet visiting spelljammers are most likely to
visit or problems they might encounter. Toril is so well covered in other
products that its regions cannot possibly be covered as well here. Instead
the region descriptions attempt to provide a general overview combined with
the points spelljammers would be most interested in, such as flying
dangers, other spelljammers, and local laws concerning spelljammers.
Book II: Who's Who in Realmspace presents a compendium of the
various power groups with an interest in Realmspace, and the ability to
pursue that interest through spelljamming vessels. While groups such as
the Harpers or Zhentarim are major players on Faerun, their impact on
Realmspace as a whole is far less. Instead, the organized navies of the
Elves, Shou Lung, and Wa are the primary players, though many other groups
contest for control of the sphere's wildspace as well. In some cases,
sample vessels and their crews associated with these power groups are
described so that the DM may make use of them in their campaigns.
Finally, Appendix I presents a timeline of spelljamming in Realmspace.

A note on sources.
This work is not intended to replace any TSR works, and draws on
many copyright items for inspiration and as a sources. Each chapter in
the Update then concludes with a bibliography listing the sources used to
write that chapter, TSR sources and not TSR sources alike. Aside from
properly crediting sources, this provides the interested with a convenient
guide to other sources on the regions described. This work contains TSR
trademarked material, as well as paraphrased copyrighted material. This use
should not be construed as a challenge to that status.
