Yes, that would definitely keep them on their toes. > IMC I don't usually slaughter PCs, except if they do something incredibly > stupid <snip> it's a tricky one, this. yes, the pcs should be in danger of death, or you lose the excitement. but if you've put lots of character development into a pc it's somewhat wasteful to kill them undramatically. let alone irritating the players, i've found that it discourages people from actually developing their pcs into people with their own distict personalities and motivations. this is why i almost never use creatures or things with "save or die" effects. in a way it's like a fantasy novel. (in general) you know intellectually that the protagonist is going to survive, but that doesn't necessarily stop you from fearing for his life. in some ways this is something you have to rely on your players for. if they don't empathise with their characters enough to be scared, then there's not a lot you can do about it. -- rad. I'd like the world to be saved, once and for all, so that I don't have to do it again.
