Hey, even vile emperors need a family!:) Vaulkthrath Maedar male Fighter 9th level hp 60 AC 4 Lawful Evil Ability Scores: Str.: 18 Dex.: 10 Con.: 14 Int.: 16 Wis.: 11 Cha.: 10 Weapon Prof.: Bastard sword (specialized), broad sword, mace, dagger, morning star, hand axe Nonweapon Prof.: Etiquette, heraldry, leadership, freefall, celestial navigation, balance Languages: Vodoni, common, elf, dwarf Equipment: Bastard sword +3, scale armor +2, helmet of command (as wand), ring of human influence Appearance: Vaulkthrath looks like a bald human male with smooth, gray skin. He has no body hair what so ever, and always wears a suit of scale armor and helmet with a veil under the eyepiece. He stands about 6' tall and weighs over 200 lbs. Though Vaulkthrath does not discuss his age, he is little over 230 years old. Only his glowing white eyes reveal him to be something not human, as he is a maedar, a male medusa. Background: Born in the Vodoni Empire, Vaulkthrath is the nephew of none other than the Emperor himself. For the first century of his life, Vaulkthrath lived a life of a warrior, training in the Imperial Academy and eventually earning a position as a Flank Admiral of minor rank. However, his position brought him no satisfaction, and he left the service about thirty years ago. Using his position, vast network of connections, and considerable wealth, Vaulkthrath made his way into Known Space. After numerous voyages to dozens of spheres, he settled down at the nexus of travel known as the Rock of Bral, where he set himself up as a loan shark. He now provides money for those in debt, for a considerable interest rate. He uses his magical devices to keep competitors at bay and debtors in check. He is very intelligent about who he leads money to, and always collects. Vaulkthrath has a wide network of spies, assassins, and thugs throughout at least four crystal spheres, and will hunt a debtor to the ends of wildspace to collect. He has a considerable fortune at his disposal, including gemstones taken from Vodonispace before he left. Vaulkthrath does little to attract the attention of local authorities. He keeps to the smaller marketplace, rarely venturing far from it. He maintains an office near that market, where potential debtors must go to meet him. He never removes his helmet, for "security reasons." In truth, he does not want to reveal his true nature or accidentally turn a debtor into stone. Thieves have learned to avoid the place after a number of burglars disappeared into the building. Vaulkthrath turned them to stone, and sold them to illithid art dealers. Word on the streets of Bral is that Vaulkthrath is the man to see if one needs money, but its wise never to cross him and always repay what he is owed. Other Notes: Vaulkthrath is never without his four bodyguards, Vodoni Enforcer werewolves. Each of these brutes has 7 HD and str. 19 when in werewolf form, but will only reveal their feral side when threatened. If attacked, they will enter a berserker rage that doubles their attacks and gives them a temporary +2 to all damage rolls. They suffer a -4 penalty to their AC, but since each wears chain armor +2, the penalty is somewhat negated. Each is armed with a magical +2 weapon; two are armed with longswords, while the other two are equipped with battleaxes. Even when in berserker rage, they will always follow Vaulkthrath's commands without question. Vaulkthrath has considerable wealth at his disposal, and has numerous agents. If he calls a hit upon the characters, they should expect an attack by 2 4th to 7th level thieves (depending on the party's level, DM's option) per character. If Vaulkthrath goes after the party's ship, they can expect an attack by a squidship or hammership (depending on the type of ship the party owns) crewed by a crack crew of 4th level privateers. -- Night Druid
