I have the helms in my campaign do this so I >might be a little bias. :-) I spoke with her a little off list about this. I don't want to put words in her mouth, but I think its safe to say we should consider this piccadillo from the novels as a typo; an editorial snafu. It was something which added drama at each instant, but the inconsistancy simply wasn't picked up by her or the editor. Not a big deal, if this was in a Realms product folks would likely just note it and move on, but then Realms or Greyhawk have new products coming out, they don't have to dig for references like us. (not that your system doesn't work for you, Chris, though i admit I find the science of making that adjustment fit for all the other SJ products a little daunting (the sargossa adventures, or the Rock of Bral:)))
