Although the Wizard's Spell Compendium did have some flaws in it's
creation, it is a valuable asset for every kind of wizard.  I
particularly liked the rarities added to the spells, making some spells
hard, or even impossible, to get to.  Let's face it, at lower levels,
wizards need all the help that they can get.
