    The implication of this is that only a brainless person would
organize the books in such a manner.  I recommend against
making a habit of throwing out these kind of blanket inuslts.
I _like_ it by name.  And, more to the point, the decision was
based largely on customer feedback.  Most asked wanted it
alphabetical.  They even went to rec.games.frp.dnd and said
"By level or alphabetically?" and the majority wanted it
alphabetically.
    As for a system behind power and levels, I would agree with
that, for the most part.  But these are spells that have been
created by a huge number of people over the years, and many
of them not TSR employees.  While they could have gone in and
updated them, I am sure the work required to do so would be
prohibitive.
