  This reduces the problem to one of semantics.

  If a=b  and b=c  then a=c.  Each is a different letter but each has the
same value at some point making this set of equations true.  Practitioners
may insist its magic (they're not wrong) while later a scientific system
is understood more completely and it is found to behave within definite
rules and so these practioners will insist that it is science (And they
are not wrong either.)
