First off Yes it is a game, But I prefer to make it as realistic as
possible.
Now what do I mean? Well first off I run the my game with RL Physics
with additions. Since Science is only scratching the surface of how the
universe works, then magic (The undiscovered science) works along side of RL
Physics. In fact it that part of physics which has yet to be discovered on
Earth, (at least officially.) Anyway the way I run helms is that all the
strange effects (wooden sailing ships can magically fly between stars, air
envelope and so on.) are caused by the magical effects of the helm. The helm
has several functions, Creating a weak deflector shield that can also retain
air and pressure for the crew. It creates an inertial dampening field around
the ship. And a unique gravity field. It can (depending on the type of helm)
creates it's own jump gate to hyperspace (Flow) Some can even travel at Warp
speed. There are a couple of other things the helm can do as well, such as
climate control etc. I do have a helm critical hit chart just for the helm.
No one with the exceptions of certain creatures or spell effects, or Tech
effects is able to survive out in space with out a ship.
Well this is it in a nut shell. Any questions?
