I pretty much use the phlogiston as it is written in the original SJ
rules.  However, I have tech ships in my campaign as well.  Since the
technology society is studying the phlogiston and spelljamming physics
as a whole, they haven't made any scientific conclusions about it yet
except for what is already known by the spacefaring natives of the
"magical dimension".
