I posted a write-up of Dukagsh a few weeks back; I'll post the relevent part below. It's all unofficial, of course. > 3. Would the scro think human LE gods or baatezu make better gods for them? > Probably not. They see Dukagsh as somewhat of a Christ-like figure for them; probably be something like trying to convert Catholics to Islam (it's done, but not often). Cults are certainly possible. Dukagsh The future leader of the Scro people had a long and interesting career. Born the fifth son of a noble family on Borka, Dukagsh's future would have been the church, as the common practice was back then on Borka. However, Dukagsh was a rebellious son, and left after only a single month, claiming that it was "not right" for him. For the next two years, he wandered about the various cities, mostly spending his time at the local bars. His life was slowly dragging downhill, his appearance deteriorating with each passing month. It seemed that his life would soon become nothing more than that of a drunk. It was his elder brother (and the Unhuman War) that saved him. Hating the way Dukagsh was treating himself, his brother signed him up on a passing orc scorpion, hoping the military life would change him. At first, Dukagsh was a poor choice for a sailor; he was constantly brawling with the crew and breaking into the captain's private stash of alcohol. The only thing that saved him from being publicly executed was the fact that he a good warrior and had great potential, if he exerted himself. He was passed from ship to ship for over five standard years as various captains tired of his brawling and bragging. Despite his problems, Dukagsh learned a great deal about space combat, race relations, and the command of ships during that time. The event that changed his life forever was when he was turned over to Dezimar's command. For the better part of a year he listened to the speeches and proclamations of Dezimar, and was deeply moved by them. He gave up the bottle, and started taking charge of his life. He swiftly rose through the ranks, eventually given command of the scorpion ship The Ravisher. He quickly became Dezimar's most trusted commander and even became his pupil, learning the basics to casting spells. When the elvish fleet closed in on Dezimar's little operation; he gave command of the fleet over to Dukagsh with orders to find help. In addition, the two mammoth ships under Dukagsh's command were each loaded with a protoform primary witchlight marauder, in status, to give Dukagsh the leverage he needed to gain the support of the other orcish commanders. Dukagsh lead a brilliant retreat, dodging the elvish forces and making his escape. Later, when he heard about the destruction of Phoenix space and the death of his mentor, he was devastated. He naturally blamed the elves, and swore to get revenge, no matter the cost. That proclamation gained him the attention of Cancer, God of Corruption and Raids. Seeing Dukagsh as a cat's paw for the furthering of chaos in space, he began sending Dukagsh dreams of power and glory. Following these dreams, Dukagsh took his ragged fleet to Ice space, where Admiral Longtooth was holding out against the elves. The two quickly struck up a friendship, and they started making plans for the eventual use of the marauders that Dukagsh had in his possession. However, Longtooth was secretly negotiating with the elves for a peace treaty. He figured that the marauders would make perfect bargaining chips to get a better deal. Dukagsh learned of the treachery only too late; as he returned from a mission, he found the base empty, the fleet departed. A few of his commanders, hiding in the deepest parts of the base, remained to tell Dukagsh of Longtooth's treachery. Dukagsh scoured the Ice space bases for stragglers to add to his own, now diminished fleet. After departing from Ice space with a modest fleet, Dukagsh decided to return home for reinforcements. Instead, he found his homeworld destroyed, his people dead. Only a handful of people remained, along with a small fleet of nearly ruined ships. Dukagsh, shook by this loss, gathered as many survivors as he could aboard his ships, and departed. For the next year he would gather the shattered remnants of the orcish fleets, following every rumor supplied to him by his command staff (many of whom had served in other fleets before joining Dezimar's command). Dukagsh even learned of the elves' betrayal of Longtooth, which he saw as justice. He never approached Winter space, and didn't even stop to consider aiding the orcs trapped on Armistice. Instead, he led his growing fleet through wildspace in search of every orc ship that would follow his lead. Finally Dukagsh became convince he had gathered as many ships as he could and departed for parts unknown. He was worried that as large as his fleet was becoming, the elves would take notice and gather a force to deal with him. So he left, taking dozens of orcish ships with him. Following the dreams supplied to him by Cancer, he would discover a new, unclaimed world well suited to rebuild the Orcish Empire. For the last 35 years of his life, Dukagsh would personally oversee the forging of his people into something greater. Their potential was finally realized, and they became something far more than mere orcs. They became the Scro. Dukagsh, for his part, became sicker with each passing year. The attention of Cancer was taking its toll on his health. It is indeed a wonder that he survived so long under Cancer's eye. Finally, on his deathbed, Cancer approached him physically, to make him an offer he couldn't refuse. Cancer would make him God over his people if he became Cancer's lieutenant and agent of chaos and strife. Dukagsh agreed, and became another pawn for the master of Corruption and Raids. Unknowingly, he had sold his people out to become slaves of Cancer's whims. -- Night Druid
