Subject: Re: [ADMIN] The List FAQ is Born, Plus Some Other Stuff...
Spacefarers,
Well, this is my first "official" posting of any type, although
to be honest I am not fully the admin yet, as I have yet to
recieve word from the MPGN guys, and my mail account has
yet to be linked as the list-owner account.
Thought I would let ya' know that there is now a FAQ for the
SJML, which can be found at the Arcane Space Division on my
home page at...

http://www.lesbois.com/members/malacoda/TarkasBrainLabIV.html

It is basically a summary of how to subscribe and
unsubscribe, what is and isn't on-topic, plus some technical
details, like how HTML posts are evil, as are attachments.

As for the on/off-topic part, it could be summarized as:

This is the Spelljammer mailing list, and it's primary purpose
is to discuss Spelljammer. There are lots of resources for
other settings, or AD&D in general, so general questions
about such things are best directed there.
But, then again, the list is not run by a facist regime, and
no one is going to get shot or banned for straying a bit off-topic.
I only start to feel the need to step in when off-topic threads
last to long (i.e. a day or so), or start to head towards flames.
And I will usually ask for a thread to be brought back on-topic
before I just end it. Note that I keep a very wary eye on any topic
that screams Flame War, such as religion or politics.
As the people on the SJML who are also on the Mystara
Mailing List (the other list I admin) can tell you, me stepping in
is a rare thing. Likely to be the same here.

    Enough bureaucratic stuff...

For the Mystara Mailing List I set up a member directory,
so people could send in their name, e-mail address, location,
homepage, other RPG interests, and so on. It can be found on
the MML home page, at the same site listed above for the FAQ.
Is anyone interested in this for the SJML? Take a look at the
MML directory, and see what you think. It would be strictly
voluntary, but can be very handy.
Let me know (though if you are, don't send any entries just
yet).

Finally, feel free to drop me an line at any time, whether it
is because you are having technical problems, problems with
other members, or just feel like discussing the list in general.
I am always willing to listen.

And thanks again to the additional messages of congrats,
both public and private. I appreciate it.
