Hi,
Couple of differences between a HUGE sphere and a normal one that
shrinks visitors. A big sphere will take up more room in the
phlogiston. One effect is that it will take ships a long time to
circumnavigate the sphere while they are on the outside. Another is
that it might be hard to avoid the sphere while travelling in the
flow. A minor effect of shrinking spheres would be seen while going
through portals. Say two ships fly into such a sphere. The second ship
sees the first shrink out of sight as it enters. The first ship sees
the second get as big as a planet. Then the second ship enters, and
both ships are the same size, although they both see a humongous
portal.

The stars don't look like they are glued to a nearby sphere. We can
see the closer stars shift around as the earth moves in its orbit. But
who's to say its not all a huge, permanent, very creative Phantasmal
Force cast on the Sphere? When do we lose contact with Voyager? It
should be in the neighborhood of the Crystal in a few years/decades.
