And the base starting age for humans, in the 2nd Ed AD&D PHB, is 1d6+15,
IIRC.  At that age, the character's stats are at their max and he's ready
to rumble as an adventurer.  Seems like the guys at TSR put maturity at
age 16 as well.  Of course, some people never mature, but that as an
aside... :)
