Actually your reference deals with specialty priests, not clerics.  I
admit this few sentences is not clear on the matter but a thorough
reading of the PHB and DMG and looking at other TSR products (most
notably F&A and P&P though I know of several others also) proves that
specialty priests and clerics are entirely different entities in a
deities pool of servants.
