The situation I was in was that a player decided to beat up on a poor defenseless dwarf because they were taking wine from his cellar. The PC did kill him in the end but I didn't let him have it too easy. Personally I think it is okay aslong as it is used sparingly. I have discovered how much damage a horde of goblins can really do to a group of heavily armed adventurers.
