True, but the way that I consider it is that all HP above 4 (+Con bonus)
are "Fate Points". Basically, you're hit for very minor flesh wounds, or not
at all until you run out of luck. That occurs at those base points mentioned
above.
Now, I've done some changes in my game that take into account wound
levels, being stunned from a hit, and penalties to actions based on the
damage that has accrued because I do understand what a "good cut" or bash
can do to a person.
Let's say that the Ogre hits with a spear causing max. damage. Well, my
fighter has 10 HP. left, so he's fine. That basically means that he dodged
the brunt of what would have killed a normal person what 3-4 times over ?
He's good and he's lucky.
Note that the "fragile and weakly Mages" in AD&D have as many HP at 1st
level as any normal person. Consider their HP's in reference to whether
AD&D's damage system is realistic at low levels.
