While I don't like the idea of archmages sitting on the deck twiddling their thumbs until a ram is completed, I suppose he could teleport or dimension door just as you suggested. Your point about 100% success is also well-taken; perhaps instead of a save for 1/2, I should change it to a to-hit roll at a bonus, much like Melf's Minute Meteors. OTOH, it's much easier to buy a medium catapult and three 0-level humans to crew it than it is to find a 9th-level wizard willing to risk his life in mercenary combat. Mulling it over, Hemlock
