IMC, I have a group of advanced Elves (very Psionic) who use a device
called the Astral Traveller which is essentially am extraplanar travel
device. It resembles a huge snowflake (like the "Ship of the
Imagination" that Carl Sagan used in his COSMOS series).

As its name suggests, the main use of the Astral Traveller is to
cruise that plane - and the ship provides protection, too , though in
a very passive manner (like a Porcupine).

The elves (called the Orics - short for Oracles) try to stay out of
sight *most* of the time, and are in fact avatars/servants of the god
Celestian. They are watching over my campaign world, waiting for the
emergence of SJing technology/know-how, and to provide assistance to
those they decide are worthy (and good).

I created the Astral Traveller concept long before SJ, but I have
since updated it to match current SJ thought. The ship is quite
small, based on the maximum crew capacity (10) but has a wicked SR
(probably in the range of 6+) based on previous movement rates used.
The vehicle can travel wildspace and also functions in atmospheres.
However, it CANNOT enter the flow - a hint of its devine nature!

     -JS

Subject: [SPELLJAMMER] - Spelljamming the planes?

Howdy all :)

I recently pulled out my wallet and decided it was time to invest in
one of the new TSR campaign settings. I got myself all the
planescape gear and generally I'm happy with it. I have an old copy of
the manual of the planes but i feel that this is a bit out of date
now and the new gear brings it up to speed, at least in practical
gaming terms.

One thing I was wondering about, though, was whether anyone had given
spelljamming in the planes any thought? It seems like the ideal mode
of travel anywhere to my mind :) Naturally a ship wouldn't fit
through most of the planescape portals but I can't see why
spelljamming wouldn't work as well in the Air Elemental Plane as in
the Prime.

I'd be interested to hear your views. I know that this may change
the flavour of a spelljammer campaign but that can sometimes be
useful for a bunch of world weary ultra-experienced characters :)

And also, dont worry, I'm not proposing that we give spelljamming the
flick. In fact - I'm trying to think of an innovative way that we
can make it survive :)

Yours in peace and friendship,

Ben Harris.
