Though lower level elves exist (like PC's), >they're not the norm. By non-adventuring, you're speaking of the individual class awards? Such as the mage's 50 XP per spell level cast, or the thief's 100 XP per successful ability use? I agree, because of their long lifespans, a classed elf or dwarf would be much higher level than the average human. However, human lifetimes aren't so short as to make these awards useless--intensive training could take (say) a human fighter up to level 6 or 7 in just a couple years. Of course, while they would be great at fighting techniques, they might be a bit lacking in strategy and "monster trivia." However, IMO, that's how you end up with things like 9th-level princes, and the ubiquitous FR mages and archmages, as well as the large numbers of 3rd level scro troops (though IMHO FR _does_ go a bit overboard). Note that a commander in the IEN is at least 9th level; and most elves aren't dumb enough to adventure for their levels. Hemlocks
