Spell points for mages?  Well, there are two methods to use:
The Player's Option Method and the Netheril Method.  If you have access to
Players' Option:  Spells and Magic, you can use that system.  IF not, use teh
Netheril system:

One spell level cast costs one spell point.
For each level you gain, you gain spell points equal to the spell levels you
are able to cast:
A first level mage has one spell point.  A second level mage has 2.  A third
level mage has 4.  And so on....
