Well, actually i used a chronomancer a while ago after the supplement
came out as an NPC (too much powerful for PCs to handle... especially my
PCs) and i'm planning to use it again in a new future BIG campaign that
will (i hope) end with my players attaining immortality (i play in
Mystara).
Basically, this chronomancer is the son of one of the players (a
wizard) and never appeared in the adventure (but he will in the next):
his only involvment in the story was to bring the son of another PC (a
paladin) back in time to save the party and reestablish the timestream
an Immortal (deity) had tried to alter. They never suspected anything
and to these days, only the paladin knows how the story really went
because his son revealed it to him.
IMO, a chronomancer is too powerful and above all has a so fixed and
difficul duty that is unconceivable to insert it in any group of
adventurers as a PC, unless the player agrees to use it only for a
couple of adventures involved with the Chronomancer's goal. Otherwise,
all the players should agree to start a Chronomancy campaign much like
"Quantum Leap". Don't get me wrong: i loved the series, but i don't
think i'm ready for this kind of campaign. A handful of adventures yes,
but not a campaign.
