Ok, I think that's enough time, so I'll post what answers I had before I asked my orginal question. Here they are: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Uplifted: In this theory, a rival race of the elves, most likely the Illithids, gave the goblins the helms and magic they needed to get to the stars. This was in effort to crush the power of the elves. Problem is, this would be rather expensive and tie up a massive amount of resources, more than the Illithids may be willing to use. 2 Homeworlds: The goblins have a number of worlds to their own, from which to launch their expansion into space. This would give the goblins the resources that they would need, as well a reason (overpopulation, very large tribes seeking new lands to conqure and such). I currently favor a much modified version of this. The only problem is what ever happened those worlds at the war's end? (this one is probably mostly fact). 3 The Big Lie: That's right, the whole thing was a hoax. The elves, being the longest lived race, made the whole thing up to make themselves seem all-powerful. They changed all the records about 2 centuries ago, long after the war supposedly ended. Since no one from the time is still alive but elves, who could dispute them? The elves used the unhuman war as an excuse to hide their efforts into biological warfare, including bionoids, marauders, spirit warriors, and insetoids. They even went so far as to dump a bunch of unwitted orcs on Borka, and then later claim to have destroyed Borka (who remembers Borka as whole? lets check the records...hmmm, it says that the elves nuked it alright). Problems: Where do the Scro fit in? A bunch of orcs that fell for it, and believe that the must now "avenge themselves?" Are the elves that good at changing the records? Here's one that many people here like: 4 Goblin Heroes: Only the cream of the crop makes it into space. Every soldier would be a powerful chief on the ground, but in space is merely a grunt. The only major problem I see with this theory is: if the first goblins were too "heroic", then that makes the Scro seem weaker in comparison (they actually devolved!). And another one I came up with today: 5 Old Empire: Ages ago, the goblins were the first race in space. They created this mighty empire that spanned hundreds of spheres. Eventually, it crumbled on the ground, but some of it remained in space. The elves, for whatever reason, decided to finish it off. For an "evil" elvish Fleet, think of China and Britian during the opium wars. For "good" elves, think Star Wars (at best). Watcha think? Night Druid
