I've got it, and the article is one of the best ever put out by
Dragon. It does bring the scro up to par, so long as you don't start
giving the elves High Magic and all that junk that the Realms has
recently started pumping out.
My orginal question was how did the goblin kin become such a major pain
just before the 1st unhuman war given their many disadvantages. My
major point was that TSR had never indicated that my points were
invalid. In almost every reference to the UWI, the goblin kin were
stupid brutes with little to no real orginization. Very rarely did they
organize into anything more than small fleets based on tribes. It
wasn't until the appearance of the Scro in UWII did TSR really justify
any goblin race being in space (scro seek revenge, la da da). TSR even
stated that for much of the UWI, the goblin kin were too busy fighting
each other to put up much of a resistance to the elvish advance. That
does not bestow a picture of organized gobins, nor portray them as
anything more than the entry in the Monster Manual.
I think that there should have been much more though put into such
events. The entries for most of the goblin kin should also be
rewritten. I have a friend who were rather nasty with them, using
ambushes and special weapons to keep my party on it's toes (though in
the end, our group of 5 rode in and slaughtered one of their major camps
of 70 or so). Maybe TSR should use those orc off of Ultima Online (NOT
the "will fight for food" orcs of the realms!).
