I never thought of them competing. In fact, in my reality, they
have very little contact. That whole "racial hatred" thing between elves
and dwarves simply came from the fact that their attidutes and cultures
or so different. (i.e. Dwarves don't trust elves because they don't like
to live underground and would rather prance around under the stars than do
work. Elves don't trust dwarves because they spend most of their time
undreground, and don't take the time out to prance around under the stars.)
Even if the dwarves *did* know about elves in space, they wouldn't care.

Of course you realise, this means war... :)

And speaking of forges, :) I've been thinking about how dwarves
get around in the flow. What if they use some sort of plane jumping
tech, similar to the reigar Necklace of the Stars (or whatever the name
of that thing was from _An Artist's Errand_ in Dungeon #45)?
