Re: Wild Mages and Spelljamming helms

Wild mages have level variation ONLY WHEN CASTING SPELLS.  You use their
NORMAL level for spelljamming, the one HD, hp, THAC0 and all that good stuff
is based off of.  The helm sucks magical energy from the caster, but since
the caster need not cast a spell to operate a helm, wild mages use their
natural level.
      But if you want w. mages to pilot with level variation, here's
something I came up with:

Operate Wild Helm (Alteration) Wild Magic
Level: 1
Range:  0
Components:  V, S
Duration:  Special
Casting time: 1
Area of Effect:  1 helm and 1 wild mage
Save:  none
        This spell allows a wild mage to operate a wild helm.  It has no
other purpose whatsoever.  The caster chants and when he is done casting he
sits on the helm and rolls level variation.  The duration is for as long as
the wild mage sits on the wild helm.

WILD HELM

      This is a wild magic helm used for wild mages to get level variation
bonuses/penalties to their piloting.  These helms come in Major/Minor helm
types, just like standard helms.  The Major costs 2,500 more than a normal
major helm, and the minor wild helm costs 1,000 more than the normal minor
helm.  They can be purchased from Arcane and are most common in Realmspace
(where wild mages origionated--See the TOM).  To use the spell you have to
cast the above spell and be a wild mage, and hence there are very few of
these helms in existance.
