Sorry to disagree here, but the Wild-surge thing, IM (not so) HO, is a
PATENTLY BAD IDEA. The wild-surges are a side effect from tapping the
forces of wild magic and attempting to shape them into a spell. Well,
sitting on a 'jamming helm is NOT CASTING A SPELL. If you'll notice, no
spell is required to power the ship or activate the helm. Merely the
presence of a legitimate spellcaster is required. Also, what would be
the target of such a wild surge? As you'll notice, all spells have a
target, and Wild Surges are keyed (every single one of them) to a target
and a spell. Sitting on a Helm--> NO SPELL, NO TARGET, NO WILDSURGE or
LEVEL VARIATION.

WILD MAGES TRULY DO HAVE AN ACTUAL LEVEL! Let's not get carried away
with the fun little d20 vs level chart in the Tome, eh?

Keep toying with Wild Magic and you'll be striking everybody's eyes!
