Subject: Re: all sorts of stuff
try reading DL4 for what Daergar and Theiwar are (they ARE derro), the
Dwarves of Krynn boxed set says Zhakharan dwarves are to though the
adveture in DL15 disagrees
MMII says derro ARE human and dwarven crossbreeds
guess that makes it your OPINION about dragonlance stuff

as far as neogi in (clusterspace?--i don't have my references, i think
that's what they call the Astromundi cluster) they are very different
from neogi elsewhere, for instance everyone doesn't attack them on
sight

as for the Tenth Pit allying with the elves--it's sort of hard to ally
with someone who wants your jugular on a spit (i know, i know, the
elves aren't that sadistic as to roast your body parts but a longbow
(or fireball) firing squad or a hanging sure do cause problems with
continued mayhem)
if you want to know if they've kept themselves secret, well: Prince
Andru of Bral is an elven ally and he knew enough about them to hire
someone to stop one of their supposed to be secret shipments in Skull
and Crossbows, i think he'd tell the elves just to get help against
them (as if the elves wouldn't have discovered them yet--they do want
to control the spheres, which the elves are trying to do now--maybe
policing the spheres is a better term for the elves)

elven ships can cloak? I'd love to know where you found that
reference (finally a trick to throw at my PCs, YES!!)
pirates of gyth live in isolated clans, not an allied nation

the major allied forces of the spheres are the scro alliance, the ogre
king fleets, the elves, the dwarves (they communicate and cooperate
between kingdoms and citadels, their gods will even if no one else
helps keep their communication alive and they support each other even
though there isn't a formal network or heirarchy among most citadels,
if the goblinoids were on one side i guarantee the dwarves would ally
(remember racial antipathy?)), the knights of the chalice (i believe
that's their name), the neogi (this is similar to the dwarves with
much more infighting), the illithids, the Tenth Pit, the Pragmatic
Order of Thought (a loose alliance again as they're less proactive on
an overt scale), the arcane (they will basically remain neutral unless
someone else violates their neutrality--remember how the neogi pissed
them off and now have to use illithids as middlemen in dealing with
the arcane?), and the chainmen (i know there's a few others like the
sindiath line but i don't have my references so i can't look them
up--also the gnomes might be able to put together something and
several groundling kingdoms such as the Shou have enough presence to
be considered a force)

the bottom of the Rock of bral is a military fortress, how are neogi
supposed to land there or any other slave traders?
the slave business on Bral operates in its center (the "Underdark")
and then they smuggle the guys out on normal craft--no neogi going
near Bral will survive long (remember how they crashed a ship into
Bral and cleared an area--I think it's now the arena?)

MC not important? have you seen how much oh so important SR you can
lose trying to turn around with a low MC ship? my PCs take for their
main craft only MCA ships, no matter how well armed (they prefer
boarding actions anyway)
the elves like their ships because you can't find a 60 ton ship that
requires so few people to run most other places (yes that means half
the crew's standing around but then that means you've got half the
crew for healing, replacements, boardings (and repelling boardings),
firepower (longbows and lightning bolts are good at this), etc
or you can just run at less than full crew
also, where else can you get a 60 ton ship in a week (see Greyspace
for stats on how long it takes to grow ships)

i'm gad you made your campaign your own, even if it includes dwarven
mages--that's your right and i say bravo for doing it, still this is a
discussion of the standard rules (i think, if i'm wrong someone will
shoot their opinion at me, just like on dragonlace ;) )
i agree entirely with you about the dwarven magical failure stuff, for
more on exactly why see the realms list--i will post my answer there
in a day or two, i've been having lots of email troble lately but i
should be able to manage it finally

i repeat, drow in space are very rare and they ENSLAVE goblins, not
ally with them, drow in space would be attacked by everyone else
(making their ships look like neogi ships doesn't help them either)
and the elves are always looking for confirmation of their existance
in space
the scro and [few] drow are hardly going to get along, the insectare
are much better choices for this (thanks for reminding me of their
involvement, i'd forgotten)

death is the only way to go
