As some of you may know, Mystara has space travel as explained in
Champions of Mystara box set. Gravity works different there, with one
side of the gravity plane pulling, the other pushing. This means that
if you fall off the side you keep falling, no bobbing in the gravity
plane here. What this allso means is that air falls right off the ship
if the ship does not remain perfectly upright. Okay, this is extremely
limiting and some may ignore this. What it did in my campaign was
stimulate the invention of shields. An air shield spell will make the
edges of the air envelope semi-permeable, as if the air had a lot of
surface tension. This kept the air in, but also allowed people to get in
and out, and allow you to fire in battle without ditching the shields.
It did not take long for some wizards to improve this spell. For
limited duration, the semi-permeable air bubble's edge becomes
non-permeable, adding to the AC of the ship. Since a mage may be called
upon to sit on the helm, this spell is usually found in the form of a
magic item. If the shields are smashed down, the magic item needs a
while to recharge (the ship canna take no more, cap'n).

This is one of the ways that I've added a bit of sci-fi to the game
using existing magic instead of technology to mimic certain standards.
