	That apple thing is easy.  With practice you can launch an appl
around the ship.  You launch it in an arch so that the apple comes
through the plane at a perpendicular.  the motive force would accelerate
the apple away from the plane, but the gravity would still be causing the
apple to cure in its orbit.  hopefully the apple would continue to follow
the arch around the hull and on towards the other side.
