WRONG!! You've already made these fighters second unto
god-alone-knows-what in strength. You don't need to make them ANY
tougher. Picture this: 10 hammerships vs the weight of ONE of them in
eyefighters (ie. 60, no?).

First round, the eyefighters shoot from max range, doing what, 1d10/2
damage I believe. The hammerships do nothing, since the fighters are out
of range. This can continue as long as the eyefighters have shots, or
until they move in for the kill.

When they get in range of the hammerships, things get more interesting:
the hammerships likely kill ~20 of them by the time the eyefighters get in
close. This means 4 fighters arrive in close range PER HAMMERSHIP! The
next round, each hammership takes 4d10 * 2 damage. Figure 5.5 is average
for 1d10. This means that each of the 10 hammerships takes 44 damage in
ONE round. This is assuming hits and average rolls. This round, the
hammerships are likely to take out a few more eyefighters, since more
weapons can be brought to bear. Keep in mind, though, that the
eyefighters can fire EVERY round, not 1/2 or 1/3 or somesuch. If they
aren't all dead by this round, they'll chew the hammerships to pieces
while the poor schmucks try to reload.

Keep in mind that as far as weight goes, this is 10:1 in favor of the
hammerships. Make the odds more like 5:1 or so, and the fight is a
flat-out massacre. Hammerships are by no means weak, either. In a
nutshell, I think that your eyefighters are MORE than tough enough as it
is.

The latter I could see, but only with rather tough target numbers.
