Re: Kobolds

As far as I remember the orgional kobold mentioned (not the paratroopers)
was in the Dragon in the range of the 120s.

Someone else asked about ideas for demoralizing a party with such little
buggers.

I had run my party through an adventure from the Dragon in which they
stumble across a tribe of Kobolds who have found a poetry book and think
it's a book of great spells.  Anyway the tribe is humiliated and
demoralized, so I get the idea that they are now out for revenge.  (They
ended up not hurting anyone so the party just left the area).

So, the next time the party meets up with these folks, they are on the order
of 5-6th level.  BUT.... I used the Humanoids handbook, and the Fighter's
handbook to buff these guys up.  They now met up with 40 kobolds who were
each specialized in the shortsword and halberd.  There were also now 3 mages
amongst them (all of the kobolds I made 3 level).

That would have been bad enough had I not given these little twerps some
brains, too.  They circled the party after an initial weakening volley of
arrows and spells.  There was one ring in the front facing the sword
wealders and one ring behind w/ halberds.  The back team would PARRY every
attack that came at the sword guys, and the sword guys would chop away
unharmed.

The fight lasted an hour, with the party finally losing.  (I fumbled no
rolls during it).  When they awoke, they found themselves bandaged and
unmolested with the kobolds no where to be found.

Never again did they take anything for granted from me. ;>
