For instance, a ship >with an SR of 6 vs a ship with SR 3 would move 2 hexes per movement, while >the slower ship would only move one. That could work, but what if the numbers don't exactly divide? It does give the ship with a faster SR an advantage, but then, speed _should_ be an advantage. How much is certainly a question. It hasn't seemed to overly affect things so far, but I haven't had much of a chance to play test it. >>I also tripled the ranges >>for all artillery (4 hex range is now 12 hexes, but 1 SR moves the ship 3 >>hexes as well. > > Why? Unless the hex is redifined to be 500/3 yards, it'll also >change a ships speed (to about 51 mph per SR). > >-Static Well, I run a pretty low level game, most helmsman (NPCs especially) are level 2-5, only one or 2 SR, even with a major helm. Under the old system they are like : Move a hex, fire, next round-kinda boring and no opportunity for the players to get creative. This way they get a sense they're ship is flying, and battles cover more board space:) Yes, I do define the Hex as 500/3 yards since the hex is just an abstract indication of the speed the system shouldn't suffer from any change like this (well, it does make ships a bit more maneuverable) "We look on the same stars, the sky is common, the same world surrounds us.
