I think there has always been among RPGs and Star Trek fans the need, or
the latent will to create something Star Trekkish (if u pardon my
neologism) to use with their favourite role playing game. So when
Spelljammer appeared it seemed the best campaign to use Star Trek stuff
for those who already played AD&D: it is not a question of people
looking at RPGs for the first time and choosing Sjr as their Star Trek
background (i think this kind of people should have chosen Fasa's RPG
instead), but of Trekkers already playing AD&D and eager to throw in
some Trek stuff. I found it very interesting even if i'm a OD&D player
and so i bought it, and still use Sjr integrated with OD&D rules
regarding flying ships and it works. Moreover, there is something Star
Trekkish in the very essence od Spelljammer, and i think Astromundi
Cluster is what really gives you the impression you're playing in the
Star Trek universe (at least to me). Everybody has his or her own Trek
characters adaptatio!
 n to S
jr i suppose, and it is just funny that way: personally, i try not to be
so explicit when i created them and so i changed the names to let the
players guess (for example Picard is Captain Luc Stewart -a combination
of his real and fictional name- and Riker is William Reiks, and so on).
I think that as long as we've fun, we should go on like this without any
fear of contaminating the genres.DM
