Perhaps the confederation's large ships use, now get this, forges. They =
call their forge "komputer" and as long as they quest for knowledge it =
generates motive power. Each divination spell cast or device used =
provides motive power for a set duration. The more people seeking =
information and using spells or devices, the faster it goes. The captain =
speaks directly to it to maneuver the ship.=20

As far as how they look, I would suggest clipper ships since they can =
hold a greater number of people and are sufficiently more advanced than =
the galleon.=20

The forge prevents others from taking control of the ship and using it =
for their own purpose, much as the dwarven forge does.

What about Major Helms linked together like a series helm... only more
powerful? Each moves up to 100 tons, but if they're linked their power
should be summed (2 helms 200 tons, 3 helms 300tons etc). Whaddaya =
think?
