Federation, even in the AD&D universe, would be significantly
advanced enough to make REALLY BIG ships, hold HUGE tracts of space,
wild and other, and have some REALLY POWERFULL enemies.

People say the AD&D system isn't very flexible outside of a fantasy
setting, I disagree.  Phasers and Magic wands are interchangable, so
is an impulse engine and a spelljamming helm.

There is even a Borg like race introduced in Planescape Campaign
Setting called the Parai.  Adapt 'em, give them a queen, and you have
the Borg all over again, only using magic.

Well that's my two cents.
