Better yet, borrow from Star Trek without using the technology. A new =
sphere is found where an organization that calls themselves the =
Confederation. This group controls all planets in the system as well as =
several other spheres. Unique vessels are employed that do not look like =
the enterprise in any way by this group much as the Elven Man o War is =
used.

This Confederation is intent on moving into other spheres and enlisting =
people to their cause. The catch is that all of the independent worlds =
in the multiverse don't particularly like these people and to top it off =
the organization is decidedly neutral. Some thing these same worlds =
don't like. Imagine working side by side with an orc! It's disgusting!

Now, say Greyspace has a particularly dominant race. Elves for instance. =
They've committed themselves to ridding the spheres of all scro. Well =
this Confederation is protecting entire Scro worlds. So they attack. An =
elven human war erupts in that part of the multiverse possibly drawing =
in other races from the known spheres.

It would have to be something the PC's actively participate in, but it =
would make an interesting backdrop for them as they avoid these =
Confederation ships and the elves as they battle each other.
