That encounter was something I used in an AC game as a side encounter. In the AC the drow are minor players and are struggling to just stay alive (and keep their few remaining ships intact). The illithids and Antilans way outclass them and have whole fleets to hunt down enemies. The neogi are in a great position and can pull the strings for a change. The Scro and pirates of Gith are fighting suicide wars against the Elves and Illithids, respectivly. Yes, drow normally would not keep driders around, but since they "occured" on the trip TO the cluster, you the drow will use them (as slaves of course). Plus the switch to Seltain instead of Lolth should tip off everyone that things are not going well with the drow. If things aren't bad enough for the *poor* drow, the Insectare want to use them for their own means. Feel sorry for the drow yet. In the Cluster, the shoe is on the OTHER foot for the dark elves. They are on the run and desperate for allies. Rumor that the players got about the drow. When the drow first entered the inner sphere, they had a VERY bad encounter with two Antilan Crystal ships and half the drow forces were lost. Adventure hooks: Drow desperate for allies will approch anyone they think will not attack first. Players with Varans or Lizard-men may get intersting offers to "hide" out a few refugees from the Illithids. Or an elven PC is approched to offer an alliance with a "legendary" enemy. The cluster elves have had almost no exposure to drow and would be for a perfect a drow double-cross scenario (old habits die hard). Or the drow try to organize the Scro, pirates of Gith, some rogue Varans , outcast neogi, etc. into a new power to be delt with in the sphere. Little chance of that alliance lasting, but a short term danger. Or there is always the "good" drow exception, who escapes the convoy and warns the player of a powerful, last ditch attempt device that the drow are going to use to bring a drow city into the cluster. Lastly, who knows that the Insectare covert influence might have on the already chaotic and depserate drow. Ideas to use or delete. Terry
