Hello, >looking through one of the book shelves and thinking how much of this stuff >could be adapted to Spelljammer. Quite a lot. For instance: >BIRTHRIGHT: Imagine asteroids or planetoids that are govened like the >smaller nations in Cerilia. I tried Birthright/Spelljammer as an alternative to good old Forgotten Realms, and I was actually surprised at how the Birthright system works. I used leviathan ships that held massive amounts of crews, using the Cities of the Endless Sun (i think that's right) rules for sea battles in space. The idea of asteroids ruled like provinces appeals to me, but I rather liked using them as independant and mixed colonies each vying for the entire individual planetoids (like on the main planet itself). What I don't like, however, is that Birthright doesn't deal well with the fantastic (well, fantastic for Cerelia anyway). It's great if you can work it into a campaign, but otherwise, I think it's best left to the original worlds. But that's just my opinion.
