Sorry Static, I couldn't help myself. <g>

Our technology is rather widespread for good reasons, compared with fantasy.
Mages and people with magic talent are very rare. Also they can, and do,
work independently. Finally, they have a very easy time getting vast sums of
money, without becoming a bottleneck in a process to run plumbing through a
medeival city! Where's the motivation? Further, who can afford to buy, when
we've got serfs and peasants?

Our tech depends on a wide base of support, but essentially anyone can get
involved, profit can be made, products can be marketed. People become
wealthy by marketing *lots* of cars, the bigger the market the better. And
we had the development of a middle class.

But really, now I'm getting into economics. I give up, back to Spelljammer!
