In a message dated 96-09-19 19:41:00 EDT, you write:

<< Hmmm... I thought that the 10 HP per hullpoint was mostly one way.
I could be wrong, of course.

I don't know if it is or not but I was thinking that if someone was hit with
a ram what would the damage be.

 	The conversion of SR to Movement is 1 = 50" (1" = 10 yards), so a
ship at SR 6 would be would be going ~102(!) mph. That should help put
things
in percpective. Also, ship turning radii (MC) is *terrible* compared to
almost anything in the air. MC D needs to go 2 (or was that 1?) hexes
forward for each hex of turn. Unless MC was A, I'd rule out ramming (IMO).

There was this movie about a modern carrier that somehow was sent back in
time to the just before the japinies hit pearl harber. The movie showed that
MC did not matter as much as speed. That is proven throughout our history of
air wars. I would not nesseraly rule out raming but I would not make it very
easy eather. Especily if there is a big air battle going on, now if it was a
one on one say the ship aginst a gryphon w/ rider then i would say the
chances of the ship being able to ram the gryphon would be nil. But it would
be just as hard if not harder on the rider to damage the people on the ship
unless he had some very good timeing. Taking a spelljammer ship into combat
aginst just about any flying grounding creature (with a few exceptions) is
asking for that creature to be shot out of the sky. It would be like taking a
WWI bye plane against a F-14 tomcat there is no comparison. But if you take
several bye planes aginest a lone F-14 you might have a chance.

(TS = SR?) At an SR of 9 (~150 mph), I think the hammership would
have other things to worry about... (: And who'd needs a ship. There's a
20th(?) level mage on board, who'd be *much* better at dealing with a
puny little town... (: Also, all those shipboard weapons won't do much
good against a griffon mounted mage directly underneath the ship (though
 this is situational, of course).

I was just using that as an example, true a 20th level mage could level the
city. Also if the mage could cast a spell from the gryphon's back he would be
lucky and if he was under the ship he or the ship would not be there long for
two reasions one a ship going at that speed would far outstrip the gryphon or
the ship was trying to nock the gryphon out of the sky by slaming its hull
into him.

I don't rember that rule, but then again I havent read the box set in a long
