Well, I had been giving some thought to the Thri-Kreen and their
position in the universe, as that whole Cloakmaster Cycle did the Juna
to death. If you are familiar with the Athasian sphere, you would know
about the race known as the Tohr-Kreen. The exact origins and nature of
the Tohr-Kreen have been the subject of some speculation, and this led
into my pet theory of the Thri-Kreen. The Tohr-Kreen were the
spacefaring Thri-kreen that flourished many milennia before man's blind
forays into the stars. They posessed a 'technology' far beyond any save
that of the Juna, and used it to travel to the far edges of the
universe. And then suddenly... they vanished. The reason for this you
can fit into your particular campaign. Mine was a particularly nasty
spillover of the Blood Wars, the Torh-Kreen sacrificing many of their
numbers to seal the portals to our plane.
Following this decimation at their hands (claws?), their race went into
decline. All the thri-kreen in the universe are the result of centuries
of devolution. The thri-kreen only have the faintest stirrings of
collective memory regarding their previous glory.
With regard to the Thri-Kreen on Athas, as they still posess some skill
in spellcasting, perhaps they are the end product of a lost ship in the
flow. As Athas is so isolated, it would take many years to reach.
Perhaps the Tohr-Kreen on Athas are survivors of phlogiston
preservation? Or perhaps it is as someone suggested, that Athas was the
ancient home of the Tohr-Kreen?
I'm just throwing out ideas. My personal take on the whole thing based
on small inferences here and there. Go ahead, now's your chance to
return fire. :)
