Last time this came up out friendly TSR Net Rep said that TSR's position
on this is that Athasspace is a closed sphere - ie even if you were able
to find the crystal sphere, you are unable to open a portal into it.

Of course, it you don't want it working that way in your world, that is
totally up to you.......
