It did not say why the dark side did not freeze. The sea is really where
the souls go, and one can go there and call the name of someone on the
edge of death and get them to come back. The king was assasinated for
wanting to sign a peace treaty with the light side(It was signed anyway
later by the queen his daughter). I don't know if it is out on video.
