One of my favorite "non-standard" alternate Earths is featured in
Bruce Sterling's short story, "The Unthinkable". To sum up the changes,
it's set at the end of the Cold War, but technology is based on conjured
beasts and magical constructs. For example, refrigerators work by binding
a frost demon in the unit, portable phones involve conjuring circles, and
the "A-bomb" is short for "Azathoth bomb" (with fallout causing demonic
influences).
It might not be suitable for Terraspace, but could be fairly
easily integrated into Spelljammer...
