Do you Need the books?

Hi,

I've been DMing a Greyhawk Campaign & I'd like to move to SJ.

I've got the novels, both MCs & Practical Planetology.
Plus I've got 2 net books.

I read the boxed set & I remember most of the stuff there.
(Binary grav., Spheres, Phlogiston....)

Problem is, I don't have rules & stats for battles and how long it takes
to get from here to there.

My question is, can I play a SJ game without these rules & not lose the
"flavor", I can get the Roleplaying O.K., but how necessary is the Rolling?

Should I spend time hunting down the set?
(I live in Israel & I'm not sure there is a second hand gaming shop in the
country!)

What Net resources are there which I can use to replace the set?
