If a person has chosen to make the official TSR stance on Krynn part
of their campaign (I haven't), then they will, of course, want to explain
certain things. But, I doubt that Hickman and Weis particullarly cared
about the Spelljammer setting when they wrote DoSF. In their minds Krynn
probably had no connection to SJ.
In my own campaign I had a hard time believing that Krynn could be
used with the SJ setting without some serious reworking. They have tried
to tell us that a SJ ship-building dock exists in Palanthus. Oh really?
I don't think the War of the Lance would have gone the way it did if one
side had just one ship. The floating citadels wouldn't have been nearly
as fearsome.
In my own campaigns I have said that there is a huge shield, the
Godshield, around Krynn, put there by the gods after the Cataclysm. Part
of their punishment was cutting off Krynn from the rest of the Multiverse.
