The Astromundi Cluster, in my opinion, is a great set that TSR released unfinished. With all those asteroids filled with all kinds of inhabitants, all kinds of things are possible. What kinds of things have your players done so far? I seem to recall that an ongoing theme in the Cluster was obtaining resources for survival. Water for example. What if your characters got wind of a legend of an elven ship that came into the sphere and was shipwrecked somewhere in the outer rim? I'm not talking about one of the scrawney Doombats, mind you. I'm talking about a Man-O-War. If your characters get a hold of that ship, then they can travel outside the sphere and beyond. How about a big war? It's an old concept, but always a favorite. Put some kind of a unique twist on it, like making a relatively minor power suddenly very dangerous. For example, a very charasmatic beholder has risen to prominence in the outer rim, and he has convinced the other beholder war lords to unite behind him in conquering parts of the sphere. Somewhere in this world I have some notes about the planet of Astromundi. I never got around to using the cluster, but if I had, the characters would have found that the planet wasn't totally destroyed. A large, disk-shaped world, largely hollow, orbits where the planet once was. In fact, the disk is what's left of the planet. Settlements of all types can be found along the rim of the disk - the flat planes are the proverbial no-mans land. The inside of the disk is an enemorous cave - large enough for a spelljammer to enter and fly around in. Imaging a spelljammer campaign underground. Talk about a campaign crossover... OK, those are my tips for spicing up the cluster. This list has been quiet for a while. Let's give this guy some ideas!
