That *WAS* my original point.

See my previous comments about Teleport. One 70 year old mage teleporting
back can bring people thru in much mare rapid time. And again, elves have
plenty of lifespan to spend on exploration.

Hell, depending on the campaign level, I could see a Heriophant Druid
sleeping thru the whole trip just to explore new wildernesses and gain more
knowledge.

And imagine a mage as part of a Generation Ship with nothing to do but use
that big library he brought along for spell research to fill in the years.
