Hrm...think I'll butt in about now :)

1) Who says nobody is doing it? It's just so inconceivably boring (and
nonprofitable) compared to using the hypothesized jump gates (or
whatever) that there's not *hordes* of people doing it. Why would they,
when they can save themselves the time and effort by bringing a helm'd
   ship through the flow?

2) People wouldn't say it couldn't be done, just that you'd be crazy to
do it. Of course, adventurers are known for their general insanity...

3) Yes, but NPCs don't get bored with roleplaying the same-old same-old
for a 40 year stretch of their character's lives. "You keep sailing,
and you see...the same little speck that's still 20 years away that
you saw yesterday, and the day before. Oh well, better go grab some
   infinity vine for breakfast. Again."

Seriously, you might as well just ask how many years they want to sail
before they see something...

(")-(") If the mice are eating more than you are, buy cheaper food.
(O O) If they're eating better than you are, eat the mice.
